As a producer and creator of the documentary series The 78 Project, I'm working with director Alex Steyermark to create a historical archive of breakthrough artists exploring and recording seminal American roots music on 1930s acetate field recording equipment. I' m also a member of the Lupine Chorale Society under the direction of Adam Arcuragi, playing Death Gospel, hopefully with messianic fervor. I spent four years in the marketing department at the performing rights organization ASCAP. And as a journalist, I have contributed in multiple formats to MTV.com, Billboard, SPIN.com, Wall Street Journal Speakeasy, AOL Spinner, Harp, Magnet and Crawdaddy! among others.
Ola Belle Reed for her truth and her hard-won talent, Myrna Loy for her integrity and glamor, Annie Proulx for making storytelling, ancestry and the mysterious darkness of the human race important and vital again, and my mother for teaching me it's beautiful to be a smart, strong, equal (and totally weird) woman. I realize more every day how much of who I am I owe to her.
You have to exercise rebellion: to refuse to tape yourself to rules, to refuse your own success, to refuse to repeat yourself, to see every day, every year, every idea as a true challenge - and then you are going to live your life on a tightrope.
